At a glance

The community member has a design question about summarizing a set of documents that fall under a program. They believe the Document Summary Index may be well-suited for this purpose, but want to double-check before proceeding. The primary goal is summarization, not question-answering.

Another community member suggests looking into the "tree summarize" feature, providing a link to the relevant documentation. The original poster finds this suggestion interesting and notes that their main goal is to build a tree of summaries and examine it, with QA being a secondary objective.

Design question -- we have a bunch of documents that fall under a program and would like to be able to summarize the documents AND then roll that into "program" summary. It seems like Document Summary Index is well suited for this purpose, but wanted to double check before going down that route.

Summarization is primary, not QA.

I think that depends whether your goal is to index the information. Have you looked at tree summarize? https://docs.llamaindex.ai/en/stable/examples/response_synthesizers/tree_summarize.html
Looks interesting.. main goal is to be able to build this tree of summaries and examine it, secondary QA. This looks promising.
